Let's see what the impact of the new 6.5" ACROs is on the value of a vintage example. Anyone want to guess? FYI

I sold my (NYC BD. of ED. 1970) for 950.00 a few weeks before the new Acros were released...I bought the new 5x14 and 6.5x14 Acros and I am happy with both.

Hi Mike -

Do you by chance have a photo of the acro you sold, or the link if ebay? Is the black Sharpee "NY Bd Of Ed" on the inside the only thing that makes it Ny Bd of Ed?

Best - Chris

You did good! I sold mine about 5 years ago to a collector in Japan for 2.5 times what I paid for it.

In addition to the Sharpee writing, mine had the number 1 painted on the outside in white paint.

Reason I ask is I just bought a 10 lug early 70's acro w/ the pointy (blank) badge; there are no other markings.

The rumour is 100-200 of these were made for the NYC BD of ED. If they could have had a run done, I'm sure others could as well. Unlike today, drum makers back then would do just about anything their customers wanted. My only disappointment is that they didn't make an 8 lug version, which leads me to believe these were made from pre-drilled Supra 402 shells.

Yarp! Just a supra shell that was anodized instead of chrome plated. I was lucky, when I found mine, the board of ed. was written in red nail polish on the outside of the shell. It was easy to remove. I'm so sorry I sold mine.

Too many great drums to list here!

I'm sure I'm late to the party, but what's the scoop on the shell quality on the new ones? Are they an import shell?

I think those were only made for the NYC school system...the one in Ebay looks a tad suspicious to me re: the Sharpee lettering...looks too new looking to me but that is only my observation and I can't prove it is or isn't.
