Maxwell's Caddy Green Gretsch Set Recently Used By Charlie Watts

Loading...

I was browsing Steve Maxwell's site and noticed the Caddy Green Gretsch set that's been for sale was recently updated.

http://www.maxwelldrums.com/gretsch-201214-caddy-green-unreal-drum-p-4725.html

Charlie Watts borrowed this set for his 6/29 appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Here is the Hulu link: http://www.hulu.com/watch/376204

The performance starts at 37:21.

Enjoy!

They are nice - as Steve says ...the bd is not an original finish...that's part of why they are $7000. The cadi green snare on his site is more than that (asking price by owner).

I thought it was interesting that my kit (same sizes, plys ....mine =late 50's Gold Sparkle with matching snare - has a 6ply 14fl as well....and silver sealer) was downgraded when appraised because of that fact. I'm referring to what Steve mentioned here:

"These are 50s era Gretsch drums and there's a cool story here. 8x12, 14x14, 14x20 believe it or not. The 12 and 20 are 3 ply! The 14 is 6 ply. All silver interiors"

I'm not saying one way or another - just that one 'expert' says having a mixed ply kit....even if it is Facory which mine is....is not as valuable while another says (implied?) it's maybe more valuable.

Well....to me anyway....my kit is worth the world and that is all that counts....to me. My insurance adjuster would take issue with that of courseDOH

If I had the money right now the cadi green snare would be at my home...

Yes - the drums are most likely worth more because Mr. Watts sat behind them.

Charlie Watts:

I've always liked his drumming. He seems to never try to 'over-play' - plays for the song.

He will be the first to say the Stones probably could have replaced him with a more technical and schooled drummer......I've heard him hinting to that in an interview when asked about his drumming and training background.

I for one am very glad that did not happen. Satisfaction...Paint It Black...etc etc....may not have been anywhere near as cool done anyway other that to have that man behind the kit.

I'm not even a big Rolling Stones fan but I do like Mr. Watt's drumming = solid.

Oh ya....the Cadi Green kit.....Nice..........all the other Gretsch kits he plays too....nice.

I believe Keith is on record as saying that the Stones will end when Charlie decides he's had enough.

Nice kit, looks well care taken.

But the price, just because Charlie Watts played it for an hour, is way too much.

I think it may be worth a few bucks more because Charlie Watts played it but the real value is the Cadillac Green and the sizes = supply and demand.
