Ludwig's

What a nice kit! You made the right decision there. The DDrums will likely fade into obscurity while the Luds continue their rise in the minds of all knowledgeable connoisseurs!

Beside that, you have a huge sense of accomplishment as you bring those beauties back to life!

Just going to pick up the other parts. I asked the guy about the snare that came with it and he said it was a matching one with gold wrap with the zoomatic strainer but he let someone borrow it years ago and they moved away with it. Ahhhhhhhhhh darn. He said he would have let me have it too. I did get a new protector bass and snare bag with the nice thick white insides with the deal

. There brand new.

OK, got the L arm cymbal holder, floor tom legs, and baseball bat mufflers. finished stripping all the hardware off the drums. Those black strips inside the bass drum are for a Evans Kick pad that was in there. I can use that so will leave them for now. Cleaned them. Guess I can never get the original sparkle back but close. The 13" tom came out nice.

I think I have these as clean as I can get them without rubbing the sparkle off.

Not as deep gold as under the lugs but almost. I guess 50 years or so of UV,club, smoke, is never going to be exactly the same. they look good though. Working on the hoops. The strips just feel off when I took the staples out. Will clean those. I filled any spots and painting the hoops now. They were in great condition. Just foot pedal wear.

The 13" and 16" are done. The wrap is almost pristine except for the slight fade. Working on the hardware of the bass drum. Hopeing to get these in playing condition by Sat.

Hey...

they are 50 years old plus....should show some age.

I'm starting to think of drums in terms of human years....if a drum is 80 years old, wouldn't a human look a little rough at that age also?

Well, then people shouldn't complain if everything isn't perfect at that age.Eye Ball..

Nice analogy!

What's looking back at me in the mirror this morning somewhat resembles the '58 WFL kit I recently acquired that needs much resto' work...electricit

Once cleaned up though, plays pretty good ;)

Finished for now. Will eventually get a Ambassador front head and a old Ludwig logo. I am going to remove the rail mount and put it away for safe keeping and use a snare stand for the tom. I may use the cymbal mount. Some chrome loss on the claws but I just took everything completely apart cleaned it and put it back together with all the original components. Restored the bass hoops and will use my vintage Ludwig stands and hardware with it.

So what set is this. Big Beat, Classic? The fellow I got it from said he bought it in 68 but I could not find it with that type Bass drum cymbal mount which leads me to think it may be older. Don't know if he bought it new or used, and he said he once had the matching snare with Zoomatic throw off that came with the set..
