Yeah, that particular wrap ups the ante on price. It was actually a big seller for several years in the mid sixties and probably one of the most common colors out there for Ludwig drums of that era, but demand still seems to exceed supply so that pushes the prices up.

THANKS FOLKS!!!

Now for me the situation is much more clearer. Here in Italy Ludwig drums are more expensive than in the US, old and new ones. In the UK it's a little bit cheaper.

But I think I will take the drumset, maybe the price is still negotiable. But I will also looking for a matching 14" floor tom.

Thanks again!!

Hi,i have a question about a Ludwig Classic set i got offered to buy. The strange thing (perhaps it's only strange to me) is, that the configuration is the following:- Bassdrum 20x14- Tom 12x8- Floor Tom 16x16 !!!My question is:why is there a floor tom in that size?? Does that mean, that at the time there was another 14" floor tom or a 13" tom or does it mean, that the floor tom belonged to another drumset? The serial number of the bassdrum is 260xxx, the tom 429xxx and on the floor tom is a badge without serial number (all Keystone badges). Thanks for the replies!!

That configuration was not offered as a kit option in the catalogs, but who cares. Back in the day, 1965 specially, I, like many other people, went into a store like Sam Ash on Long Island and just ordered drums by size. I had the exact same Ludwig configuration in BDP, 12, 16, 20 with a 5" Supra. While the "normal" size floor tom tended to be a 14x14 in that configuration, I needed something lower pitched and meatier. This same question came up a few months ago. I have purchased around a half dozen new sets over the years. None of those purchases was based on me looking at a configuration in a catalog and saying "I want that one". If what I selected happened to match a catalog configuration it was just a coincidence. The catalog photos were intended as suggested configurations, and were probably mostly geared for less experienced buyers.

Got to say, 12/16/20 is my favorite gigging sizes. Great separation. And they'll fit almost any giggled like to play

Agree. I had that configuration back in the '60s thru '70s and the larger floor tom gave me much more flexibility going from jazz to country to pop. Unmiked on anything but Jazz, the 14x14 sounded anemic compared to a 16x16.

There also might have been a 13 that got lost along the way.

Unlikely on several accounts. I specifically ordered a Lugwig 12/16/20 as a number of others did in the '60s. The 13" toms were relatively rarely used with a 14x20 BD back then.

I sold a '66 Ludwig in that configuration back in November. Had to re-wrap them. When finished, they sounded excellent and the new owner loved them!:D

Sold them for $900, they were an original set together, but the badges were missing, I had bought repops.

$2100! Now I see why I keep getting offers to ship oversea's!Eye Ball
