Leedy & Ludwig knowb tension Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hey drum lovers, long time reader, first time poster here.

I happened uppon an old Leedy Ludwig knob tension kit. It came with all original hardware (hi-hat, straight stand, snare stand, kick pedal).

All the mounting hardware to put the tom on the bass drum is in tact and working. All the knobs turn and tune except for two on the batter side of the floor tom. Snare drum throw and all the components are fully functional. The kick drum and toms have calf skin heads, the snare has a more modern "rogers" head. Also as a side bonus there is a set of keystone bongos that pretty much match!

It's in really good shape, the guy I got them from said they had been in cases since he had got them in 1978.

Also in with the deal atleast eight cymbals, half of them are turkish era and half are probably from the 50's, nothing over 14"

Anyways, the reason I'm telling you guys all this is that I'm not really sure what the value of these are. I know they're super rare bacuase there is virtually no infor outside of the Ludwig book about these. Then all of the sudden guitar center puts one up for 13,000.00 just for the shell pack.

If anyone has any insight on these, please let me know.

I know everything is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay. 13,000.00 seems crazy to me, but maybe to the right person?

Thanks in advance.

Allan.

First thing to do is totally ignore GC and that 13,000.00 price tag, they are smoking their shorts on that one...remove one "0" and you are in the ball park...those drums are the Edsels of drum design. They are somewhat of a collectible though so you should be able to find a buyer. Good luck.

Mike's correct. GC prices are nuts. But, your set is rare. You can't really play them, they're too flimsy. Spare parts are unknown. The wrap is not a rare color.

But they do have some value. They're "never" found with all four drums, and a set of bongos. I'd guesstimate value around 1200-2000. Cymbals and hardware not included.

Well, I've called several very reputable drum shops in Canada and the USA and from what I gather you're shooting low on these. I was offered $1200 for the snare alone. One shop offered me 3500.00

Thanks for nothing Vintage Drum Forum.

Good luck. I hope that you prove the collectors wrong. But, I have serious doubts that you will.

Your snippy remark about the "knowb" tension drums speaks volumes for character.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Give me the name of the shop, and I'll gladly sell mine for that amount!

Pre Ebay days it took me 8 years to sell a gold sparkle bass, floor and matching snare in gold sparkle. 800 bucks!

Good luck on the big bucks.

You asked a question, you got an honest, accurate answer. And this is the way you respond with your SECOND POST on the forum???? Eye Ball Lame

If that's what you were honestly offered, I'd call that shop back and say yes I'll take the 3500......if its a fabrication because YOU think the drums are worth that, then you sir are sadly mistaken. The expert collectors here have spoken about what they believe market value is. If you paid more than market figuring you can make big $$, well....guess you didn't do your homework FIRST.

If you were offered $3500 take the money and run as fast as you can! I've seen complete kits in working order priced at $1500 and they still can't get them to move.
