Latest Scam (for Me) - USPS Notification

Latest scam for me. Caught me because I am out of the country and expecting a couple of packages. The USPS is supposed to hold my mail until return, but packages sometimes slip by the local guys. Actually tried to open the attachment - like a dummy - but some software, installed that morning, would not let that happen. Lucky for me.

Since all of us get deliveries at times, thought this warning might help someone else.

Email says:

[COLOR="Red"]Hello,

Your parcel has arrived at the post office on October 14.

We were not able to deliver your package to your address.

To receive a parcel you should go to the nearest USPS office and show your post label.

The post label is attached to this letter.

Thank you for your attention.

this is a very common tactic. I have seen them posing as UPS and FedEx as well.

They are usually .exe or .zip files. No legitimate business would ever send either one of these types of files.

Sometimes they have a link that takes you to a hacked web site that will try to download and install a virus or trojan.

Every time I post a drum set on CL I get a reply saying they want to buy it and consider it sold and that they will send me a Bank check and take a extra $50 for my trouble and send them the balance to cover the shipping for the entity that is coming to pick it up for them. I played along with one guy and this fool fedxed me a fake cashiers check for $5000.00 The drums were only $500.00.

and it looked real. I have to say it was a good job. I took it to my bank and told them what was going on and there was no account with that number at the bank it was from. So my bank turned it over to the authorities. Of course I knew no one would be coming to pick up the drums. Then this guy emails me threatening me that I kept his money and he trusted me etc. I wrote back and said, "don't worry your check it is in good hands with the FBI". never heard a peep out of him again. and I still get that same scam. It is rampant. They won't give you a phone # or call you. Can't type english worth a crap, obviously foreigner's.

Where is the box you are talking about on CL?

Where it says "Reply to:"

the first box you can click says "Hide"......click that.

You will need to put your phone number in your ad now, otherwise they can't reply to you!

>Be sure to put your Area Code also!<

No more Spam emails anymore!

Obviously,no one can email you then (unless you put it in the body of your ad),but I don't have time to type all day anyway,so if they can't call,I don't want to deal with them .Too many tire kickers on Craigs.
