Late 60's Slingerland? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

From hackingwood

Here a few better pictures of the kit. I think I'm going to ask $1,500 OBO for it. Does that seem reasonable?

I think it's reasonable to ask, but if it were me and I was trying to sell them, I'd take $700. Bass drum hoops and T rods are not original. The finish (typically for satin flame) looks rough. I'm even wondering if the drums have been re-finished.

I'm thinking that, unless Slingerland changed there source of satin flame wrap in the late '70s as it wasn't popular then, the finish on that set doesn't look like the regular blue or green (aqua) satin flames.

Here are a couple pics from google images.

The modern set has the wrap that the pattern looks more like yours.

(I could be wrong!)

Re the Blue Satin Flame, My first Slingerland kit had identical wrap to the kit in question but it was a 67 kit. It is the original wrap for certain.. The wrap was a bit of a nightmare on stage with the way the patterns conflicted from drum to drum. I remember I would turn the FT in a particular rotation to front the audience, just so as the kit appeared more of a matched outfit.

In addition to The "Blue Satin Flame" There was a "Light Blue Satin Flame", and Rich, a couple of your pic's (2) & (4) are of the "Light Blue" Variety..

Good luck but I think 1500 may be on the high side in that condition..

Cheers

Well, I'm still not sure. I've seen a lot of Slingerlands and the blue satin was always the same shade. The only darker one I've seen was on the Joe Cusatis set in the catalog. I think the pattern of the set we're discussing looks different than the Slingerlands, but again, I'm not at all sure and could be totally wrong.

I was surprised to see a blue satin set from the late '70s...don't think I've ever seen one that late before.
