Instigator: Classic rock covers with an intense female belter. 8-midnight Friday at the Bull Bar in Long Beach 90814 (southern L.A. County) — 3316 E. 7th Street just west of Redondo Avenue. (It's about 25 miles from downtown L.A. Exit Interstate 405 at Cherry Avenue; head south to 7th and turn left; bar will be about 3/4 of a mile on the right.)

If you're coming, you can select my drums: Slingerland blakrome or Ludwig clear Vistalite.

If you feel like doing some playing, there's a blues jam on Saturday in Orange County where a 1964 Ludwig BOP will be supplied. I probably won't be there, but look for Jim: If you tell him your story, I'm sure he'll take care of you. There'll be a pretty good selection of guitars and amps, and I bet someone will be glad to hook the lad up as well.

Malone's: 604 E. Dyer Road, Santa Ana 92705. 2 p.m. to 6 or 7, depending on the number of players and the bar's evening schedule. (It's about 35 miles from downtown L.A. Take Interstate 5 to Highway 55 [Newport Beach]; exit 55 at Dyer and turn left; the bar will be on the left in about 1,000 feet, across the street from a Burger King.)

Playing Keegan's in Torrance (South Bay area of L.A. not too far from the L.A. airport) on Friday night, 7-10pm. I'm sitting in with Choyce, doing classic rock & new wave/alt covers. Friendly bar with food, and my 24/13/18 Keystones make their debut!

What night Jon?

Don't think we can do both???

I think you could, depending on what else you have planned earlier in the day, how much driving you want to do, and how late you want to stay up. Bermuda says he's going until 10, we're going until midnight.

Relatively speaking, Torrance isn't that far from Long Beach.

Two options:

1) Start with Bermuda, then come to Long Beach. Disadvantage: Probably a longer drive home, depending on where you're staying.

2) Start in Long Beach, then go see Bermuda. Disadvantage: There may be remnants of rush hour traffic to get to Long Beach by 8. You'd also have to leave Long Beach no later than 8:30 to catch Bermuda's last set (and that's assuming a clear path on the 405 ... the thing with L.A. driving is that the traffic always seems to be light when you leave extra time and it seems to be heaviest when you're running late).

No matter which option you select (or if you just blow the whole thing off), I wish you well in your travels. I'm curious if you've experienced an In-n-Out burger yet? It's a must for California visitors.
