Got this nice old 2 piece shell Ludwig from the mail today and look what was inside. Anybody seen this many bulbs in a snare before?. Luckily there held on with the lug screws and no modifications were made to the drum. It looks to be all original including calf heads and a spot I hit with cape cod cloth cleaned right up. Just thought I'd share a few pics before I disassemble it for cleaning. I'll post some after pics when she's done.
I've seen drums with lights but this is ridiculous Last viewed: 17 hours ago
Wow ! that is a new one on me ??
Hi ludwig26 - I just got a mid-20's Black Beauty Deluxe that has one big porcelain light bulb fixture in it. I spoke to the guy from Steve Maxwell's in New York and he told me that internal heating/light bulbs, was an option offered at the time of purchase. In other words, those fixtures are -factory-!
That's a sweet rare drum you have there. I'd like to see it ready to rock. Please post some photos when it's all done.
BTW... that looks like a X-mas tree string of lights in there! Mine has only one big bulb, but yours, although much smaller bulbs, makes up for it with -quantity!- LOL

A bunch of Ludwig snares..... + Dyna & P.Tone.
and always trying to recover some orphan drums!!
Yes Purdie shuffle I think your right, they are original. the fixtures are made with the same hole pattern as the lug.
I'd like those lights to get brighter every time I hit the backbeat. That would be very cool . . . .:D
Great score btw love those old Luddies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp
once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

That is very cool...I bet that is a definite factory special order...I think that makes your drum even rarer...I love stuff like that! If you are going to play the drum I'd leave the light bulbs out as the drummers of yesteryear were not hitting back beats like we do now...if you are going to display the drum then definitely leave everything as is...just my opinions.

Now if that was a Broadway snare, we'd be singin' to the Bee Gees tune "...blamin' it all, on the lights on Broadway...."
