Every time I pull out my sticks, all I get are those weird looks. And everybody laughs at my Putty Pad. I guess girls aren't that cool today, or I'm just not that good drumer (I think the latter is more probable).

Richie,Plus every Sunday on WBZ TV you'd see Bob as the drummer on Community Auditions. I forgot to add that. Remember "Star of The Day"?That's a great photo!! Looks like everybody's havin' a swinging time Cool1BGT

Ha!

Community Auditions with Dave Maynard!!

As far as I am concerned, that's the original "America's Next Top Idol" or whatever it's called.

You know, I think "Star of the Day" might be a little before my time.

I've heard of it....but can't place it.

Maybe the book I dream of writing will be about some of our local drummers.

Only within the past few months did I learn that Jake Hanna was from Dorchester.

its not 1966/67 any more now you have to b a singer to get the girls

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

That's crazy!!!So Bob Varney is a local (to me) guy!I knew I associated the name with drums for some reason...but still have no idea why.One of these days, my winter project is going to be researching the "Working" local drummers of the jazz scene. As much as I'd like to think I'd have girls clamoring around if I brought my practice pad to the beach, I'm sure this is image is much more accurate:(As sent to me by, of all things, a bass playing friend of mine Laughing H)

That photo reminds me of a terrible thing I did once when I was 14. My buddy had a girlfriend he was boinking. One afternoon, he was making out with her on a park bench while myself and another friend were sitting on either side of them. My friend Freddy would purposely pull his arm away while he was kissing her (she had her eyes closed as they kissed,) and me and my other buddy Tommy would take turns 'copping a boob-feel' every time Freddy pulled his arm away.

I know... but we were just kids, so I've forgiven myself for that one a long time ago.

LOL - I know, it was terrible, but kids will be kids and that photo triggered the memory. In my own defense, it's the only time I ever did anything like that. At the time, we all thought it was hilarious. Now, I cringe inside when I think about it.
