Identification: What are these lugs?

Loading...

A Marine Corp buddy bought this marching snare from a small antique store only because it's Marine related. Without any knowledge of drums, he asked me to identify it.

To me, the shell (thin mahogany with maple hoops) appears to be 1930's vintage Ludwig or Slingerland. It's similar to my 1936 Ludwig&Ludwig marching snares, but mine have tube lugs.

Somewhere along the way, someone mounted Ludwig Floor tom legs. What's throwing me off are these strange, white metal (maybe aluminum) lugs which I can't identify. They look like they were originally double-ended snare lugs.

Any ideas?

A very cool drum! Yeah, those lugs are throwing me for a loop right now. Maybe someone will know what they are.

Bun E & Mike,

Thanks. Mystery solved. They must have been added later as they have openings at both ends for lug inserts. If my friend ever lets me open the drum, I'll be able to tell if the drum was redrilled to retrofit these lugs. I'm also trying to convince him those floor tom legs should come off.

Thanks again guys!
