Help with vintage Ludwig Snare. Last viewed: 6 minutes ago

Loading...

Hello There,

I recently came across this Ludwig 14x6.5" snare with 16 lugs and baseball bat style dampener.

I found it in the basement of a small town church in Iowa while installing a PA system. They were going to trash it and instead I adopted and gave it some love.

My problem resides in the model and year of this beauty. The badge's serial number is 420429 with no visible date stamp inside the shell, I searched all over with doubts about the model.

I'll love to get some helpful information about this snare.

Welcome to the forum! You have a School Festival Model, probably from 1967. See the link below. Nice drum!

Stallwart,

What throws me off is the that 1967's School Festivals is the dampener, Those models have a dial style dampener.

Stallwart is correct it is a school festival the strainers and dampers changed thru the year models. Mine is one of the best sounding snare drums I own.

Thanks for the response guys!

You guys were a lot of help, I'm an audio engineer and soon I'll put it to test in the studio, then I'll decide if I should keep it or give out to somebody who would use it!

Hi Zeke!

If you decide to sell, I would be interested. It will sound great in the studio, though. Sweet snare.

Thanks!

You have a great drum. As I've said in other School Festival threads, think Jazz Festival with more "Umph"! After recording this drum, my guess is you'll be keeping it. Don't be fooled by the use of "School" in the name.

I'm not sure if they just gave it to you, but you might consider giving a nominal monetary donation to the church. If they support a local food bank, maybe even give some canned goods for the upcoming holiday seasons. Your new drum typically sells for around $275-$350. The gold sparkle drums are in the higher range.

Please let us know how it records.

Nice suggestion, Tim. Though it's a free world, it's smart to spread good will and honesty around. It often comes back to you when you need it.
