Hey everyone,
Yesterday I bought my first vintage Ludwig kit.
I have been searching on the internet for date information so i can find out from which year the kit is.
Can someone help me?
Here are some pics...
Granitone interiors make them early 1970s. What are the serial #s on the badges?
I shall see for the numbers.
I have another question:
On the 4th picture there, the 12" tom has the B/O more in the middle of the drum (not more to the batter side of the drum). Is that normal?
The two toms mounted over the bass drum, don't appear to be Ludwig. They both have Tama mounting brackets and Tama "one touch" mufflers. The tom mounted next to the smaller concert tom,is definately a converted concert tom.I'm beginning to think, looking at one of the floor toms, that some of these drums are Tama Imperialstars.
The floor tom, closest to the bass drum, has a extra hole in it,where a Tama"flying T badge" would have been mounted. The tom next to the concert toms, has a B/O badge mounted almost halfway down the shell, which is NOT where Ludwig mounted them, but where Tama did.
Though some of the lugs, mufflers and mounting brackets look correct, some, as well as some of the interior coatings are Tama.
I would encourage you to post some more pic,and I hope you can get your money back,as those drums have more than a few red flags.Sorry my friend, but thats what I see, just from those pics.

tamadrm - that tom muffler is the first thing that caught my eye as well. Good eyes brother.

No,that's not normal.I believe that to,may be a Tama shell,and not Ludwig.
Post some clear close up pics of the badges with grommets and shell interiors. There should be date stamps in the shells, and possibly paper stickers.

Are the 6" and 8" concert toms real Ludwig drums?
It isn't a serious problem because I bought the whole kit for 250€=330$.
I just want to know if something is Ludwig.
I have my doubts. They have re rings, which means 3 ply and 76 or earlier.Look up or post all the drums serial numbers ,according to each drum.
Also ,what kind and wah size spurs are on the bass drums? the should the the arc type and 5/16 for 3 ply shells with re rings,or 1/2" for drums with 6 ply shells and no re rings.

I think your ok with the 6" and 8". I have some exactly like those with the 3 ply, granitone interiors, clip mounts, rerings, and pointed badges. Mine are circa 1974.
