I scored a Standard aluminum shell for $20, wrapped it with crappy 'stick & peel' blue sparkle wrap, added some Leedy lugs, Slingerland COB stick savers, MIJ butt plate, Ludwig tone control and wires (all parts I had lying around), bought myself a P86 strainer and bam! I have an awesome sounding Frankenstein snare on the cheap.
Good score on yours, Cylloke...and yeah...these are little sleeper snares for sure!

Here's my 2 "customized" aluminum Standards done with 3M automotive vinyl. They both sound great, but the one with the wood hoops sounds particularly good.

I always thought it would be a great way to have a metal "matching" snare for a kit to do the wrap or whatever finish that was desired. nice job. the wooden version is superb.
