Even old drummers have fast hands

Loading...

This is my first post on a forum. I'm looking forward to meeting some of my peers and maybe sharing some drum tales. I've been playing professionally for over 50 years now...wow...has it really been that long. Seems like only yesterday. I've played jazz, rock, country, polka band, symphonic percussion, blues and have just recently started a new rock band. I play a vintage (64) Rogers set. It's pretty beat up but still makes the sound I love. I'm very interested in vintage Rogers drums and, for that matter, the new Rogers set looks very interesting. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

I agree with that! Thanks for your post and welcome to the forum. Please stop by often and share your questions about drums and drumming. If you have it in you to restore that set, you have come to the right place. We have some very knowledgeable Rogers guys.

Thanks

Another Rogers guy here. My set is a 1965 and I was fortunate to find it in excellent condition for the age. It's kind of unusual because it is a lacquered maple shell (no wrap). At that time Rogers didn't offer that in their catalog and I've had a couple Rogers experts speculate that it was either a prototype or perhaps a special order by some endorser. Anyhow I'll put my Rogers up against anybody's similar sized DW's any day of the week. The only problem is I'm getting to the point where I hate to take them out to certain gigs like outdoor stuff in the summer. I'm considering picking up some kind of "modern" set that I won't be as concerned about. Take care and hope you visit the site and share your experience often.

Thanks Pete, I LOVE my Rogers drum set. I've had the snare (Dyna Sonic) since 1964 and I got the rest of the set when I was on the road in Battle Creek Michigan in about 1970 from a drummer who played with "Junior Walker and the All Stars". He liked my BDP Gretsch set and wanted to trade for his red sparkle 3 piece Rogers Holiday set from about 1964. 22"x14" - 9"x13" - 16"x16" B&B. I added an 8"x12" to the set up which doesn't quite match and I would love to find one that does. Unfortunately the floor tom was crashed into when we were loading out of a club in Chicago and sustained some some severe damage. I just found a matching shell and put the hardware from the damaged tom on and - viola - drums are all in one piece again.Too bad because the original set had some history with Junior Walker's band and I used them in the studio on some chart albums myself. For sound and quality I would put this set up against any of the so called "A sets" of today. Look forward to hearing from you again. JackThe Band

Pretty cool history. I wonder how many times "Shotgun" got played on those tubs. Cool
