Loading...

Hi everyone I am thinking about the ebay wrap I was wondering if anyone out there has had luck with it for the long term it is a mid 70's orphan drum Slingy set all different colors thinking about jammin sam do not know if it is really worth the effort I had creation drum cut all the bearing edges on the toms and floor tom the drums stay in tune and sound amazing I figured the ebay wrap was quick and easy but worried about long term such as wrinkling thanks

Cons;

It isn't made to wrap drums with, it's thin and wrinkly, it won't hold up to wear and tear AT ALL!

Pros;

After you wrap the first drum and realize the mistake you have made you will be all set for wrapping paper next xmas!

I was looking at that wrap on eBay. Said it was credit card thick, but a soft wrap. Saw a pic of another members drums here. The turquoise. Looked ok in the pics, but I think for a few dollars more I would go with Sam's JS Sparkle. I am looking at red sparkle for a rewrap of my silver mist Rogers as there is a long crack in the floor tom and small cracks on the toms. Just think they would look a lot better with a rewrap.

I've been looking at the wraps from the same seller that Turquoise wrap was bought from. Ardrummer seems happy with the way his Rocker kit turned out, and a few others mentioned having bought the same wrap ( different color ). I'm thinking I'm gonna give the chrome a try for my 1970's Ludwig Classics. They had been unwrapped years ago and I was never sure what I wanted to do with them. But I think I'll do the chrome and then get KISS Chikara decals ( the ones like Eric Carr had on his chrome kit ) and have two on each drum. Always loved the look of that kit, so I figured I would have my own mini version.

Which wrap are you looking at?

I did a set in the Peacock Pearl from one of the sellers on ebay. That stuff is actual celluloid that the seller imports from China. This was the stuff drum makers used to use but stopped using in the late 60's for various reasons, including the fact that it is very flammable (burns about like gasoline). That seller has (or had) several other colors on offer at pretty reasonable prices. I know he is not the only one offering wrap on ebay so maybe you are looking at someone else's offerings.

Here is the set I re-did...

Wow K.O. those came out gorgeous. What tune was playing in the back round? Was that the Benny Goodman trio?

I took a look at the wrap I THINK you're talking about...$89.95 for a 4-5pc kit. That wrap actually isn't bad. Some of us may still be thinking about the really thin, stick-on, wrap that was being sold for much less. Free cutting, grommets and hi-bond tape. Sounds like an inexpensive way to wrap your kit. Jammin' Sam's JS wraps are excellent, but will still cost more than $90. Let us know what you decide on!

Let's start revealing some sellers on Ebay, and also to make it convenient (though only for a short time perhaps) let's also throw out some links. If our site does not allow, perhaps the item numbers.

I am awaiting a sample in the mail from ttalley960 in Florida. Ebay Item number 281767835569

Here is part of his description:

"I keep getting questions as to whether this is similar to the cheap vinyl "wallpaper-style" that is on Ebay from another seller and NO, it is not. It is solid plastic (celluloid) similar to Delmar but a bit more flexible. It is translucent and the same on both sides."

I will let you all know what it is like when I get the sample in the mail. It would be even better if we had someone on here who has bought from this seller and who has already wrapped their kit.

The more info we can gather in this thread the better we will protect each other from mistakes of buying the wrong thing - totally blowing up in our face!

Now, this certainly is not the first thread on this topic, but I think updates might be needed as item numbers change and perhaps even sellers change or their stock does or....(you get the idea) Things change!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I once got a sample of the stuff that is "credit card thick" and it seemed to me to be cheap upholstery - like the sort that one might see on bar stools sold at Ross-Dress-For-Less or Big Lots. It is not drum wrap, not does it resemble drum wrap. Folks selling wrap on eBay tend to be either selling this stuff or what is essentially Sparkle-Brite contact paper (which is used for advertising displays). If one has a beater kit that they wish to make presentable, and fake fur or an old shag rug is out of the question, then perhaps this could be a cost-effective method, but for "real" drums, I would steer clear. That said, the stuff being sold by ttalley960 seem to be better than most (though I have no first-hand experience with it). The same pic that KO posted of his kit is used in the eBay listing, which would seem to be a good endorsement.
