Hey there my fellow vintage drum enthusiasts....any of you Ludwig experts ever hear of a pre-serial Keystone badge Acro (non-prototype) with crimped snare beds? I scored one on an eBay deal figuring it had to be an early '63 to match my '63 Super Classic kit...but was surprised when I opened the box and found the crimped snare beds. I didn't know they made any Acros with crimped snare beds. Is this rare or standard for the first non-orange peel models?

Yes this is standard...have had a few through the years, and seems that through the period of Acrolites (from proto-types to the spun shell) they had numerous types and configurations. Great find, and period correct to your classic kit.

Thanks for the reply. I knew some early 60's Supras had crimped snare beds, but was pleasantly surprised to find those share beds on my Acro. Threw some new heads and a cob top hoop on it and it sounds great!

i love acros. ive got a 65 and a pre serial prototype. had never seen any with the crimped bed. have been looking hard since i saw your initial post and have found one that is for sale. thanks for bringing this info up.
