early 80s DW snare... what do you think? Last viewed: 20 seconds ago

Hey

I have an opportunity to buy an early 80s (that's what the seller told me) DW snare drum @ £300. Here are the pics.

Do you think it's a great deal? Or should I by a new Geo.H.Way snare drum made by Dunnett instead?

Thanks!

Have a nice day,

Charles

Johhny Craviotto of custom drum fame initially made snares for DW in those early years. Looks like it might be a Craviotto. Do you have access to examine the interior and see signs of a signature?

He was in the habit of signing the interior of the shells. If he made it, its a classic and worth $600-$700 or more. Buy the DW anyway, its a much nicer snare.

If he made a solid shell for DW, it had a Craviotto badge on it as well as his signature. There doesn't appear to be one on this drum. Those drums were from the 90s, anyways. FWIW, I have one, and it's great!

I have a 2007 Craviotto solid shell and its awesome!

Thanks for the correction on DW Craviottos Caddy, Johnny knew he could strike out on his own from DW and so far he's done very, very well!

I've played on a couple of Craviotto kits, and a multitude of snares. They're all amazing drums, especially the cherry ones...don't know what it is about cherry, but it sounds the best by strides!

Hey

Many thanks for All your replies!

I guess i Will buy it. In fact I buy a 13-16-22 LA era Camco natural Maple and the seller proposes me that snare drum with.

And concerning the 402, I already own One of the early 80s (Monroe badge) and have also a LM404 from 1969 (love it!) and a Pioneer from 1965.

Have a nice evening.
