Drumming Up North Last viewed: 5 days ago

Hello all. I've recognized a few names already from elsewhere in the vintage drum community. Looks like a great site and already got some good info from the forums. I'm a former Chicago guy now living in the northwoods of Wisconsin. There are some very fine musicians around here you just have to beat the pine trees to find them. Currently playing with a 7 pc. jazz/swing group called Brassworks based out of Rhinelander. Also do some drumming with various configurations of rock and blues musicians around the area. I'm a longtime fan of vintage drums and I guess nearly everything I play on is considered vintage stuff by todays standards. Will be visiting the site on a regular basis to keep in the loop.

Nice to have you on the "Board". I hit Trego once in awhile to visit the wifes family, so I know the area.

How do you get through all of the snow to a gig???

A snowmobile?

Just kidding, but it would be fun to take the ride, the drums might not like it!

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, gigs up here can be a bit challenging in the cold months and "flexible" start times are not out of the question.

Nice site and I especially enjoyed the Chuck Davis page. Chuck was and is a mentor and friend of mine. He was the first pro drummer who ever took an interest in me. Chuck actually took me to a Roy Burns clinic when I was a young kid and then to top off the treat we went to Franks Drum Shop. As anybody who visited there knows, it was a magical place. The experience of walking off that elevator for the first time is something I won't ever forget. Glad to see that you allow space on the website to honor a true working man "drummers drummer". While many will never hear of guys like Chuck and others who steadfastly supplied the beat for a myriad of bands over the years they are the backbone of what this fraternity of drummers is all about. Thanks.
