It wont matter anyway. The world is going to end in December. The Mayans were right.

Oh yeah. So I shouldn't be investing in vintage drums for the long term, even while the prices are low?

Oh.......... No, on the contrary...... SPEND IT ALL!!! These are difficult times.

"A period rich in disasters, frightful in its wars, torn by civil strife, and even in peace full of horrors."--Tacitus

Our only hope is to placate the drum gods by rescuing as many vintage drums as possible from the dreadful clutches of a flawed and failing economy. Perhaps the ghosts of Rich, Krupa, and Bonham will find us worthy.

On a more serious note... I have been watching Rogers items and sets for quite some time. I am seeing prices at a decent median between high and low. There are a lot of factors that determine price. We all know what they are, condition, color, sizes, completeness. etc. Up and down valuations which are determined by the overall economy are just something we live with in every aspect of life. And seriously, this economy sucks. This is a subject difficult to get into without stepping in the manure pile that is politics. The current political landscape in America is vastly different than at any other time. Values are different. And they are changing.

And that is as close as I am going to risk stepping in the manure pile.

Johnny, yer right. We are doomed.

Best to save political discussions for political forums where everyone chastises everyone else if they have a differing opinion. The economy is horrible and probably far worse then most suspect. The election Tuesday was extraordinarily disheartening. It seems we have become a populace of pitiful self-interests and now make decisions based on our feelings as opposed to our intellect.

The vintage drum market is down just like every other luxury item is down. The prices may or may not have dropped, but the buyers are becoming fewer and fewer as there are less people with disposable income.

Allow me to add... we don't "allow" the discussion of politics/religion on the VDF, and for very obvious reasons. However!, the way JR presented it in this thread is most certainly allowable, and has actually stimulated an INTELLIGENT discussion and sharing of views, without all the other crap that usually goes along with it. As long as it remains on this track... we're good! Course I'm speaking of the VDF, not the country... in that regard, well... not so good. SIGH. Carry on!!

I tend to think that politics and the history of vintage drums are intertwined, to some extent. If our economy would not have supported the millions and millions of cheap, knock off kits way back when, we would still have American made kits being made in America, no? Like it or not, it is all inter-related and if we are documenting history, then they whys' are just as important as the whats'.

EDIT- Tommyp's post wasn't showing when i was typing this. I did not intend to echo or one-up or esteemed super moderator, Tooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmy.......Ppppppppppppppppppppppppp... LOL.
