COB hoop ? : comparison of early 60's supra vs. acro Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Heyoh -

So, I have an early '60, low #'d supra that is in super condition, except the top rim is slightly crimped from being dropped (still in round & sound). It's COB. Just picked up an early, low #'d acrolite and low-and-behold the top hoop's a COB. I am itching to switch them but they are not EXACTLY the same - but I have no reason to believe either is non-Ludwig.

Would Ludwig have used different COB style hoops on supra's & acro's?

Thanks - Chris

I believe they'd be the same profile, but the prohibitory factor here would be the lug count - 10 on a supra, 8 on an acro (unless it's a nice and rare 10 lug acro?) - which would prevent swapping.

Goes to show you how much I have to learn & RECALL! when such ?'s come up. No I don't have a rare acro w/ 10 lugs. Just the measly 8. Darn!

I was hoping you had a rare drum! I missed the opportunity to by a 10 lug Acro since I already had an 8 lug version. Didn't notice it was 10 lug and neither did the seller at first. He must have been tipped off and then he held onto it! It was the one that was listed for $1200 or something on ebay.

I just sold my 8 lug Supra on ebay. They are out there!

I have an early 60's Acro...probably from 1963...with non-serial # keystone badge, factory-crimped snare beds and COB hoops on it! It is by far my most favorite snare ever...

Thanks Mike, I thought I would get a bit of flack on here (from a few) for offering it in the classifieds since I was asking a bit of a premium for it. I didn't think no one would bite!

Sorry to hijack.
