Mike is good with a magic marker!Mike, I don't think the restrictions were imposed until June 1942:General Limitation Order No. L-37To Restrict the Production of Musical Instruments“Whereas, the demands of national defense have created a shortage of materials used in the manufacture of musical instruments, action has action has already been taken to conserve the supply and direct the distribution of such materials to insure deliveries for defense and essential civilian requirements; and the present supply of these materials will be insufficient for defense and essential civilian requirements unless the manufacture of musical instruments is curtailed and the use of critical materials for such manufacture thereby reduced.”

Hi Mark,

So I'm in the ballpark with..."It looks like this snare drum made the cut and was obviously built just before the “10% Law” manufacturing restrictions were enacted...."

One of my favorite snares. Would love to know what happened to the drummers who signatures appear on this.

Pretty sure James "Craw" Crawford played in the Jimmy Lunceford Orchestra. The book "Drummin' Men" is a good resource for some of the names and a great read about the swing era.
