Are Yamaha Drums Good?

That was a fine klezmer video. Good playing, good lighting, and I'm also a Barca fan.

I have owned Yamaha RC's since 1986, an Oak Custom kit since '10, along with various others like the Peter Erskine 4x14 birch piccolo and an MCA 22" kick. I think Yamaha(Sakae) has made some of the best and most consistent drums out there. The Stage Customs are hands down the best bang for the buck. IMO they are not as consistently made as other lines, but some SC's sound so good that you would be hard pressed to tell them apart from RC's.

Their hardware, as many, many can attest to, is the standard by which all others are judged. I still have the first Yamaha stands I bought 31 years ago, and I have replaced not a wingnut among them.

It's true that Sakae no longer makes their drums, but do not let that turn you off. I have heard and seen the Chinese-made Yamahas and they are a definite thumbs up!

Yes - they've been making the grand pianos in china for years. No-one seems to mind that either. $00.02

I worked for Yamaha OZ for around 4 years mid 70's.. One thing that sticks in my mind is the high level QC on all of their Musical Instruments and of their HI Fi equipment.. The service department was virtually a non event.. Everything from Concert Grand pianos, Sousaphones, kits, you name it, and some of their acoustic guitars are among the top of the list.

I was still amazed though, while unpacking an electronic kit that I bought recently, with the high level of protective packaging and detailed instructions provided, It was almost overkill.

From what I see now, that same level of QC still exists and I would not hesitate to purchase Yamaha anything..

Cheers

John
