Aquarian vintage heads - Modern or American Last viewed: 31 seconds ago

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Aquarian Modern and American drum heads? I've searched online and nobody seems to explain or show any difference. Thanks!

The American Vintage is a bit oversized for those drums where you have to pound on a Remo with a shoe - older Gretsches, for example.

So probably the Modern Vintage is the best choice for 60s era Rogers?

I've got both and the difference is indeed slight. But the American version is just big enough to fit easily on some drums which do need a shoe pounding with Remo Ambs. The test of whether you need the American or Modern is: does your Rogers fit Remo Ambs easily or do you have to work to get new ones on? If you do, then get the American version.

If these Rogers are new to you or you have never changed heads on them, then maybe you should get the American version "just in case". As I mentioned they are very similar. I believe they cost the same and the only difference would be which one might be in stock at your favorite shop. So the "cost" of possibly waiting for the Americans offsets the "cost" of wearing out your shoes (getting heads which don't fit).

Other opinions may vary -- I'm not too fussy about heads. :2Cents:

The differences have already been explained, but I thought I'd add that both heads sound great. I've had the Moderns on my DW kit and will probably go back to them. I currently have the Americans on my Slingerland kit. I haven't gotten to wail on them yet, but they sounded good after I tuned them up.

I had tried a 12 inch ambassador ona old radio king tom that had calfskin heads on it and they were to tight so ordered Aquarian vintage and they were also to tight. Neither would fit so placed the

ambassador and vintage aguarian against each other and they were exactly the same. I could not tell one centimeters difference.

Hey, don't both versions have the slightly yellowed, calf-skin look?

Yes, see the attached picture of my kit with the American Vintage heads.

..........................................................................................................

American vintage are more here.....(US) $13 each instead of $11 for snares.

BUT...they do work!

Had a few snares where the Remo heads were tight......AV went right on!

Columbus Percussion is having free shipping on over $79 orders, and I just told Joel there today to order up a dozen AV heads,as I am going to start using them more.

They will go 50% off list,no prob...AND, they are at my door next day just about every time!
