Any idea of value? 1950 Ludwig Deluxe Snare

Loading...

Hola Amigos,

I picked up this snare about a month ago and was just wondering what you guys thought it was worth. It is a 6 1/2" x 14" 1950 Ludwig & Ludwig Deluxe snare in original White Avalon finish in pretty good condition with only a couple of hairline cracks (in the wrap only), maybe about 1/2" long. Hardware is NOB with original stick chopper hoops, Imperial lugs and tension rods, although I am missing the original strainer. It had a couple of extra holes in the panel where the original strainer would be mounted, so I added a modified P-83 to make the snare playable. The snare extensions are also not original, but work for this drum. Edges are nice and it is painted white on the inside with '5001' stamped on the inside. Tone control is also in place, although the felt is missing. So...any ideas on value? Actual and realistic values are welcome.

Thanks!

Aaron

No idea on the value but what an incredible drum you have there !

I bet it sounds as good as it looks.

If you want to replace the strainer and wires, AK drums could probably help you out. His repro parts are first class.

Let me know if you want to avoid high shipping costs to US.

Just tell me you didn't make any holes bigger.....

Where did you find such a nice drum?

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Thanks, Stedi. I looked at AK for the strainer and he does not offer it, so he would probably have to make one...not sure I'm ready to spend that much $$ on a strainer. I have a couple of feelers out there to try and locate an original one. And yes...it does sound pretty sweet!

Backbeat...never!!! The holes were just big enough for the strainer screws to fit and the spacing was just right, so I'm guessing someone had a P-83 or P-85 on it at some point. Believe it or not...I picked this up on Craigslist, along with a Leedy tom from 1945 and an MIJ Apollo floor tom...all for $100! Dude played modern drums and just wanted to get rid of them. I was the lucky one to grab them that day!

Fantastic drum. A definitive sound for snare drums in general, if you ask me.

No idea of the value, but I wonder what the differences are between this drum and my 1940 L&L Standard... other than yours being built in Elkhart and painted white?

Thanks, Fellas! She is awesome indeed, but she might be going up in the For Sale or Trade section as soon as I can get her appraised. Gonna see if the Pro Drum Shop in Hollywood can help me with that. I guess I'm more of a player than a collector.

Fish...from what I've read...your shell might be a single-ply, right? Aside from that, the fact that mine requires a controlled release strainer and the differences you pointed out, not too different I suppose!
