Another Gretsch 18x14 bass drum!

Loading...

Well as if I was not lucky enough when I got my 60's bop kit I just bought a virgin Gretsch 18x14 bass drum. This time though its a very early 80's variety. Not really sure what I will do with it. Jazzers go wild over these guys. It was funny because I was watching and bidding on one on eBay that went for much more than I thought.

Have to thank Randy for spotting it for me and putting me into contact with the buyer. It will be very cool to hear what if any difference in sound there will be.

So three courses of action:

1. Sell it - I already have a 60s bop kit and maybe someone needs it more

2. Hunt down the toms and play as is - won't be too bad given the era. Would be fun to make a clean Tony Williams style kit

3. Since it is already is 18x14, Jasper and Gretsch....change top badge to a round one and loose the 80's spurs for 60s ones. I could wrap it to match a Progessive Jazz kit I already have in champagne.

No its black nitron! I did not win the super expensive $1125 late 70's Gretsch bop bass drum. Randy found this one for me.

No rush to do anything. Best offer I received was from a few guys in Germany so far.

Maybe its the camera, or me, but that bass looks more like 18 x 16.
