'64 Ringo Kit Last viewed: 1 day ago

Hey Craig -- I remember watching that Ed Sullivan show, too. Funny thing though, when the Beatles came on and all the girls started screaming (including my older sister in the living room with us), my dad jumped up and turned the channel! Then the frenzy REALLY went off (out of my sister, and then she got my mom involved) and the channel got changed back. So, I did see most of it...

Anyway, mostly because of that living room "episode," my dad HATED the Beatles! He couldn't complain enough about their hair and how they "looked like a bunch of girls!"

Guess what -- my dad is 84 (and in relatively good health) and his hair is longer now than the Beatles' hair was then! And, yes, I have reminded him of that from time to time...

Sorry to get off the point, just had to share!

Yep, Ringo never played a Club Date. too bad maybe?I think the only time he played a 20,12,14 Ludwig was his original "Down Beat" kit purchased in England, then he moved to 22,13,16.-kellyj

i'm not sure about the truth in this story i was told about ringo's kits, but here it is:

ringo is/was a rather small person (physically) and he would rather play a down beat kit (same sizes as the club date) instead of the super classic because he looked bigger in comparison.

so a club date is not the real deal as far as hardware is concerned, but size-wise it is.

at least that's what i heard. :)

EDIT:

this is probably a better source of information on ringo's kits:

www.ringosbeatlekits.com/

i especially like the section "a snare so rare", obviously the author did quite some research on it. :)

anyone ever seen this page?

HA! Great counter point Bill! Well good for him! My dad passed in '01, but mom is still around, 86 this year. My dad never did see all the hubbub either.

Tell your dad hello for me!

first of funny i was old enough to watch but dont remember if i did or not i was too busy being 14 and playing my new pearl kit in red sparkle i wonder what happened to that kit, but the facts on Ringo's kit

again according to Beatles gear it was his 2nd downbeat kit and thats a fact with rogers swivo mount tom holder and these were gifts from mr. Ludwig himself

he did end up with 2 super classics in the same color obp also with the swivo mount after all these years i would not mine have a ringo kit just for the cool of it !Cool1

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
