60's/70's Ludwig Blue Duco Last viewed: 1 day ago

Hey so I bought this one off Craigslist because I was getting bored with my MIJ Pearl kit's crappy hardware. I received the 60's 22" bass, 13" rack, and 70's 14" floor for $300 (probably should have got him down to $250) Here's some questions I have if you can answer them I would be very grateful!!!

- Did I get a good deal? (lol I'm New to Vintage)

- Is it common to have a cymbal stand in the middle of the bass?

(I've never seen that)

- How much would it be to repaint? (just curious)

- How do I know if rims are original?

- Because the floor tom Is a 70's does that screw up the value as a kit?

thanks!

enjoy the photos.

thats a great looking kit. i would clean it up well and play the heck out of it. in the late 50's and early 60's, some of the 22 inch clubdate bass drums had the disappearing mount dead center like yours. the ride tom would usually have a spade mount and be mounted to the hoop via the clipper mount. many people don't trust them and use a snare stand for the tom.many of the early 22/13 clubdates came without a floor tom. they were called combos. they were cataloged with a jazz festival snare as well.

here is a neat, inexpensive item that you can buy to move your ride cymbal over to the right if you prefer. they work real well and fit into what you have there...

I agree with Mike. That's a nice kit. You did fine. When you get those all nice and clean they will look great. Put some new heads on them and they should sound great. I would have bought them in a heartbeat at that price given the chance.

@ audiorep2. yeah I am kinda bummed that it is a 70's floor tom ( not matching in era to the other two drums) I wonder if they made 14" or 16" floors in the 60's that are the same color. (deco blue)

@ mike thanks i might have to get that gibraltar cymbal attachment it seems sturdier. Also I think i understand what you are saying about the spade mount it would just clip on the bass drum hoop? I've seen those but they seem to be very rare.

@vibes thanks! I just wanted to make sure I didn't get ripped off. Not an expert with vintage ludwigs but I just took a chance and apparently I did good. How much do you think a snare from the 60's in deco blue would cost? Maybe I should consider getting one to have the perfect kit :) or I could search out an acrolite in deco blue

The acrolite is an aluminum drum. You won't find it deco blue. Your best bet would probably be finding a pioneer in that color....and that price for vintage ludwig is superb. Shells alone are probably worth what you paid so I wouldn't even give that a second thought. All the best
