60's Acrolite Badge Help! Last viewed: 11 hours ago

Loading...

I bought this acrolite today (I don't have it in hand just yet... it's being shipped). Any ideas on the location of the badge? Looks a little strange to me and doesn't match the location of others that I've seen. Have any of you seen this before?

neat drum. most likely a 1970 version. the round knob muffler would be correct for that as well. the shell was made for the new b/o badges. but the drum got a keystone put on it. there are a few of these transition drums around. might even be a sept/oct '70 drum if i recall correctly.

Thanks Mike, that totally makes sense. I'll look inside the shell for any date stamps when I get it. I love getting odd drums like this, which is why I couldn't resist... plus, the price was too good to pass up. I'll likely sell one of my beat up 60's acros and replace it with this one.

Just a follow up. I received the drum today and it's not a 70's transition as expected. It's actually a pre-serial KB with small round knob muffler and the shell doesn't appear to be anodized, but almost polished. I'm pretty happy with it. Looks like it will clean up really well! It was a nice surprise. Clapping Happy2

Hey Mike. The snare beds are not crimped from what I can tell, and the hoops are COS, unfortunately. It was still an awesome score in my books though. I can't wait to get it all cleaned up and put it through its paces.

oh yeah. don't let those things lessen the value to you just because i brought it up. i would have expected cob hoops on a pre serial model. but stranger things have happened with ludwig. the only other two pre serial non orange peel acros that i have seen both had crimped snare beds. and my wallet is not happy to announce that i currently own them both! i'm sure there are more like yours out there though. congrats on it. love these drums!

Thanks Mike, I always appreciate reading your take on things, and i do value your opinions :)

It's a bit of a strange duck indeed, but I do like the oddballs. I'm sure there are others out there like this one, and it's always fun when you end up seeing another... and if I do, I`ll likely snap it up just as you did with your two! I love this hobby, and I must admit that you guys all make it even more fun and enjoyable Cool1

so...once you got it, does it appear that the badge hole is up high or was that an illusion? top hoop cranked?

That badge hole is definitely up high, no matter how you slice it. Maybe it was made on a Monday or a Friday? LoLoLoLoLoLoLoLo
