I just sold a set of 9/72's to Larry (Ircollura) for his son and I mistakenly told him that the lay-up was 3-ply Maple/Poplar/Maple. I think the Maple/Birch/Maple lay-up is a much better one IMHO.

Close up my layup, usually the bearing edge is painted with trunk paint but these edges were recently recut locally:

Poplar runs from a grayish white to green, even as a ply. They aint none of that in the pic.
