Now you know better not to play in the street !!Is that red Copper, the really soft stuff ?

Straight from the maker!

"Re: hardness/rigidity of the copper:

The lower part of the shell is made of 0,8mm (0,0315”) medium-hard copper sheet ....the construction with the soldered-back bearing edges, plus the classic 13mm center bead (double thickness – with brass part) give this very thin material the required stiffness and strength.

The brass material is 0,7mm (0,0275”)... also medium-hard alloy.

Soft alloys (as well as hard ones) are not useable for this kind of application.

As far as I know, the shell gauge / thickness is the thinnest that’s on the market today!

The shell gets an artificial patina, that is hand-brushed and sealed with oil as final step.

talk soon!

best,

Adrian"

Killer snare Mike!

BTW, I've heard you mention several times about some of your older, rarer snares, that they really don't sound very good. With you posting this modern JN, I was wondering, if you could only "play" one of your snares, which would it be? Vintage or modern.

Those older drums are set up as they would have been 75-100 yrs. ago with original hardware, calf heads and silk-wound/gut/Snappi snare wires...I am sure a lot of them would sound pretty good with modern day heads and wires and strainers in some cases....to answer your question is very hard as I have about 60 snare drums in my studio that are modern day players...I honestly could not pick just one...

I'm confused; is this a collaboration between AK and Craviotto? Without a doubt, my Craviotto is my favorite modern day 'player'. It was priced fair, and they even put inlay on the wooden hoops. The drum I record with the most remains my 1939 Ludwig 'Swing' 14 x 7. Interesting I guess, is that they both have wooden hoops. Must be my thing.

Thanks for sharing; beautiful drum and it's good you like the sound.

Hi Stephen,

Yep, it's a Craviotto/AK Drum collaboration...they have done a few projects together.
