The guy probably took out information for the ludwig kit since I bought it. He does have some other equipment available on the same listing.
Can anyone determine exactly what floor tom I may have based on the serial number? I am curious whether or not it matches the rest of the kit.
The interior of the floor tom is natural and has the same rings as the BD / RT.Does this indicate a 3 ply shell? I can't distinguish whether it is 3 ply or 6ply. It's just weird how the serial number 1,7xx,xxx dates this drum to late 70's, is it possible to have a 3 ply that dates as late as 77-79?

If the FT has maple reinforcement rings and clear interior it is 3 ply. No need to count the plys. In that sense it matches the other drums. But the serial number 1,7xx,xxx is from many years later. For comparison, my 1969/70 drums have blue/olive badges in the area of 760xxx. So you can see how far out 1.7 million is!
Everything on these drums is independently replaceable, so it is possible that the FT started life with no badge or lost its badge at some time in the past. At a later date (could have been last week!) somebody got that badge and put it on. If an expert (I'm not one) could handle (best) it or see very good photos (second best) then they might say that the badge was clearly replaced.
But then the FT may also have been re-wrapped, rims changed for generic ones, and one or more of the tension rods replaced with generic ones. Many things are possible. Few of these matter if you are a player. They matter if you are a collector. There are a lot of collectors here who care deeply and have extensive knowledge of these matters. I am but a player, and a poor one at that.
Attached are photos of the floor tom's badge & inner shell.
granitone seemed to start in march of 71 as drum inventory was being used up some march shells had a mix of clear and granitone
I heard Granitone started in 1975!
I think I have seen some dated 1972 Luddies with clear interiors.........
Good pics, (shell interior looks about right) but can't tell if start of wrap is imbedded into shell, (as I understand should indicate original wrap) or inside view of badge/vent hole. My guess would be re-badged. Does floor tom also have round muffler knob like rack tom?

Just to catch everyone up looking at this thread, I did purchase the kit and am trying to figure out what is up with the floor tom. It's serial number reads 1,7xx,xxx which dates it to the late 70's.
What seems to make the most sense is that the owner might have replaced the original b/o badge.
This could be irrelevant, but the floor tom is not dated, where as the kick and RT are clearly stamped.
Since I dropped $800 for this kit, I would like to rule out the possibility that the previous owner picked up an orphan floor tom somewhere down the road.
What do you think?
The floor tom does has the necessary holes drilled for the muffler. And the wrap is on par with the rest of the kit, although a little warped and wobbly around the seam.. not sure if this is an indicator of anything.
So it didn't come with muffler on the floor tom? Okay, in my experience, with original Ludwig wrap; if you look at the bearing edge of the drum, where the wrap starts, (not ends) the wrap should actually run into the wood of the shell, (not glued to surface). I tried to Google a pic with no luck, and I'm not prepared to remove a head of one of mine and take a shot at this hour, so hopefully you understand what I'm trying to describe. Beyond that, does the vent hole, (inside where the mystery badge is located) appear to be in tact/unmolested?

yup, the sound hole is scratched up around its perimeter. So the badge was probably changed?
I get what you mean. There shouldn't be any overlap at all. The wrap should go down into the wood instead right? ..oh crap, they're all rewraps aren't they..
