Ok, so what you've got there are in fact Ludwig drums, but they have been re-wrapped. The wrap is NOT original, despite what the guy that you got them from told you. You can tell by the fact that the air vent grommets have all been removed/disturbed at some point. Also, the glue joint on the floor tom is a dead giveaway. They look like they were done a long time ago however, so maybe someone could think that the wrap was original if they had no clue.
Two tone controls on the same head is a bit unusual, but it could have been ordered that way, or maybe it was relocated at some point in its life and whoever re-wrapped them wanted to fill all the holes? Either way, what you have is the real deal, just not well represented by the person you got them from.
