Mr. LudwigDrummer - I totally understand where you are coming from.

This is how I feel:

If you're looking for that special drum and can afford it when you find it....go for it because if you don't as time goes by you'd only wish you would have. I know, I've been there a few times myself. It's only money and they're only drums. Have fun with them...enjoy! That's a good story and it's nice that you found that very special drum to complete your kit.

I will add......it's nice when we get a very good deal on a special drum sometimes. I'm talking about finding that valuable/collectible vintage drum maybe at a yardsale for $5 for instance. We all talk about those finds. But, sometimes it's a little harder to talk about paying what you have to to get a special drum like you did here. Again, I say you did good.....you got the very drum you were seeking all those years....good stuff!

Cheers to you mate!

From LudwigDrummer

I now own the "perfect" snare drum to complete my "dream" kit.I'm looking forward to creating and recording great music with these drums. This completes my "once in a lifetime find" vintage drum story.

Money doesn't matter.

The most important thing is what you feel when you look, and touch this snare.

This feeling is priceless, man. Maybe there are some "WTF? smiles" here and there from some people, but I'm happy that you fulfilled your dreams.

Keep on man!

cheers!

LudwigDrummer,

I understand your love and passion for your drums. I would gladly pay 3K or even 7K for a drum that is made with such quality and care. People don't understand how it is to have a pure passion for something.

This has turned into a really strange thread. It has gone from , who would pay 3K for that snare, with much detraction to, someone did pay , actually 7K(but not for it), with much praise, because the identity of the players became known. It is a musical instrument and somewhere the value of the instrument as a musical tool has gotten lost.

If that instrument can help the musician achieve something that a 200.00 snare drum cannot, then it may well be worth it.

In Canada, the Canada Arts Council owns several rare ,very ,very valuable stringed instruments , which they make available through some application process to gifted young musicians. One is a Strad. , that James Ennis had for a year and then it went to someone else. Did the music benefit from this over million dollar expenditure, taken from the taxpayers?

There were some recent , sort of blind playings, that took place---several instruments, a Strad, another notable Italian instrument, and two or 3 others of fine but not particularily pedigreed stock. Several high end professionals played and compared them , without knowing their origins. In all cases the Stradivarius was ranked down the list by the players. The star was a modest but well made factory made instrument.

We live in a world where cult status and style, trump substance at every turn. If that drum brings to the music, something that cheaper drums cannot then it has that value, otherwise it is simply a collectible----no better ,no worse than a teapot or a 19th century toilet seat. The buyer clearly has the means to afford this, however that was garnered, and likes his purchase. If the music justifies the cost , all that much better but that is going to be a harder one to sell than the drum.

Again.....WOW!!!!!!!!

I honestly don't know if I should apologize for starting this thread or feel good about it. What I do know is that I've thoroughly enjoyed all the input that it's generated. A big THANK YOU to all the contributors, especially to LudwigDrummer for sharing the background of the initial sale, which he certainly didn't have to do.Bowing

If there's a better drum forum out there than this one I certainly haven't found it. I feel very fortunate and thankful to have the opportunity to correspond with and learn from so many experts in the field. Who says "you can't teach an old dog new tricks"?
