Why? Just Why? Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Why do people do this? I found these on ebay. Here is the seller's description:

THIS IS NOT A LUDWIG DRUM SET. This vintage kit started life as a 70's Maxtone Japanese drum set. Snare drum NOT included. These drums are in excellent condition and look like brand new! I have completely recovered the kit in Marine Pearl from Precision drum company. Features include: rail consolette tom mount, bass drum mounted cymbal arm, reproduction Ludwig badges. The kit was completely refurbished inside and out. The inside of all drums were painted white to look like vintage Ludwig drums. The original white covering was stripped, tom holes filled and then re-covered in marine pearl. All Evans heads have been played very little. Snare Drum NOT included. The following is included with the kit: Snare Drum NOT included 14x22 Bass Drum 8x12 mounted tom 16x14 floor tom Mapex bass drum pedal light weight snare and cymbal stand Sabian 16" B8 crash cymbal Drums will be packed in a minimum of 2 boxes and possibly 3. There are no returns so please examine the pictures carefully and feel free to ask any questions you may have!! Did I mention that the Snare drum is NOT included! PayPal payments ONLY

Granted, he is not trying to scam or deceive anybody, but why would anyone completely misrepresent drums like this? That's like taking a Ford Escort, painting it like a Lexus, putting Lexus badges and logos all over it, but then saying "It's not really a Lexus". Yeah, no crap, Sherlock! They are nice enough drums, why not pass them off as refurbished MIJ Maxtones, since.............you know..............that's WHAT THEY ARE! I don't get it...............

This really chaps my hide! Granted, the seller does say it is NOT a Ludwig set. Still, I just don't understand why he would even bother with Ludwig repro badges, and a Ludwig logo on the bass drum head, knowing full-well it is not a Ludwig! This makes no sense to me! Still, the kit is being offered for a more-than-fair price, especially considering what's been done. I think I'll add it to my "watch" list and see what happens!

Hmmm.... I remember a buddy in high school put a Mack Truck Bulldog on his little Toyota pickup. :)

The kit looks pretty good in the pictures... imitation is the greatest form of flattery... guess the guy just really digs Ludwig drums.

Now he has the scruples to call it what it is... but I sure hope the next guy who sells them is equally honest.

Not a Guru... just interested..

Weird.

If the price was right and I wanted the kit, I'd buy it and then take of the badges.... Kit looks good. Nice wrap.

Very odd. Lot of time, money and effort to make something that is not.

Does give us all something to talk about though.

Nothing special here but I like them.

Yah, he did a good job on the "restoration", I just wish he wouldn't have put the Ludwig logo and badges on it when he was done.

Maybe the owner would trade me this "Ludwig" kit for my Rolls-Royce...

Badges look like repro badges.. But yeah, it is strangely unsettling..

The kit looks nice enough, and think he should just say it is a refurb Maxtone.. Nothing wrong with that..

It's like an ad i saw the other day while browsing guitars on my local classifieds..

Vintage Fender Strat copy, with Fender pick ups, and internal electronics taken from Mexican Made Fender..

He was asking $550 Cdn... It's like , what ??
