I would like to see if anyone can take a look at pics I have of my kit and be able to tell me what year it is, I have taken shots of the drums, the inside wood, lugs and badges, will send the photos if needed. Thanx!

your best bet is to check the serial numbers against the guide on this site. They look to be between 79' and 84'ish.

It's an 80's chrome o wood kit, I owned a double bass kit like this one 2-24" bass drum and man they weigh a ton 6 ply all maple shells does yours have the riveted seams?, they are killer rock n roll drums, here is the link to the serial Numbers to date check. http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/serial_numbers.html

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Excuse my ignorance (and possibly bad eyes) but doesn't that serial number date page you linked to end at 1979 and serial number 2013537? Is there a specific resource for the later blue/olive badges?

Rob Cook's Ludwig Book does mention the last badge applied to drums in Chicago was 1983 and 1984. That was a keystone. I used to have a 16" FT with that final Chicago keystone badge but I'm not sure I have the serial number. I sold the drum a few years back so I can't rush over and look.

I had two toms just like that, seams riveted, heavy as hell,I am talking Sonor sig heavy, mine had mini classic lugs,I think the key to age is the mini lugs, riveted seams, the badge, and the tom mount, the round corner badge started 1979,I think riveted seams started 1979 or 80,and by the 1982 catalougue the concert tom kits were shown with modular hardware mounts.I am going to guess 1979 to 1981.I have owned 5 ludwig kits from early 60's to 1984,and played later super classics, classics amd classic maples, but the Ludwig 6 plies from that era had the sharpest edges and thickest shells I have ever seen on a ludwig, and they sounded good tuned low to low medium, but sounded the least ludwiggy of any ludwigs I have heard.

Nice kit! I must say, I've never been a fan of concert toms, but that kit looks great. And, I've seen that bass drum reso head used on a variety of kits and thought it looked out of place. On yours - wow, it really works! Nice choice!

Two examples above

1) Tool marks and damage try`n to remove/replace a badge gromet !!

2) Why you should never use steel wool on chrome !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
