Ol' Curtis was there when I bought a snare from him, and another good guy at the same time. Then turned around and bought a KIT from his/our friend within the same week...

almost never!! that is why aquarian made the vintage head line!!!
I was told (once) that they cut the calf heads for each individual drum..custom fit,in other words...
Once you throw the flesh hoop away,you are sunk!
I'm just hoping they're not out by more than a 1/4" in any dimension. !/4" or under I can work with. I'll throw some trusses on them for a month and true them up. Fingers crossed. I really like this kit.

It's not always a case of being "out of round". Often (especially in the 1930's) tom tom and snare drum shells were odd size or over-size. Smaller Radio King toms from that era are notorious for being slightly larger than they were supposed to be. I have what looks like an 8x12 RK tom but it's larger than that and I had to custom order heads for it from Remo, which is not fun. Aquarian Vintage heads are not much help, as they are only slightly larger than a normal head.
Besides about an eighth of an inch on the 13" tom, these drums are in very good "round" condition.
The pictures I took of the insides are too big for the forum, but there was a couple of signatures on the inside, and also on one of the heads, I'll see if I can shrink em down and post them....
