Hello everybody. I have been craving to get a drum kit for awhile but have paralysis of analysis and haven't gotten anything yet. Yesterday I saw someone was throwing drums out so I threw them in my truck. They are just the shells. I calculated out how much it would be to get semi decent parts, hardware, cymbals and it came out to around $380. This is basically like buying a complete kit of a known shells and which would probably be better taken care of.
Info so far
Is this worth keeping? The shells are heavy, repainted, and badgeless. The bottom nut boxs were removed and holes were closed. Even the insides were painted so I had to scrape and sand some paint off to determine what the shells were. It looks clear all the way through, I can't tell if it is acrylic or fiberglass. I think it was painted because the 18" tom doesn't fit with the others. It has no bearing edge and looks definite fiberglass, even without paint removed.
22" x 14" 8lug
18" x 16" 8lug
16" x 16" 8lug
13" x 9" 6lug
12" x 8" 6lug
I am guessing it is Pearl because there is the tom mount that says it. I can't rule out that someone added that after.
Before this I was thinking about getting a MIJ Starlight, because I heard with good heads they are awesome. Are these anything worth working with or should I just go with the Starlight. I'd hate for any instrument to be thrown by the roadside.
What I've posted above is the extent of my percussion knowledge, I don't really know anything else about drums.
