Quite a journey and they look stunning~! The attention to detail is fantastic. I think your Dad will be thrilled when he sees and plays them again. Excellent work.

Went to G.C. They where out of stock on the 16" coated Ambassador. So I decided to try the Evans G1 coated 13" & 16" batters. They're a 10 mil 1 ply like the Ambassadors. Have to say I'm quite pleased with them. These will work much better for dad's playing style. The Amb X's sound pretty good when hit moderately to hard, but sound a little "deadend" when used lightly, like as if the tone control is already on the head. Two other things I like about the Evans coating: it's a "whiter" white. Seems to brighten up the kit a little more. And the Evans coating does not leave stick marks behind anywhere near as much as the Remo's do.

Does he have any idea the extent you went to on the restoration? If not he's in for quite a surprise! I hope you get a few pics on Fathers day of him and the kit. :) Jumping2

Yeah, he say's I went waaayyy overboard on them! LoLoLoLo He saw the bass & rack tom a couple weeks ago when he came over for the Chicago Drum Show trip. I emailed him some pics a sort while ago. There will definitely be some Kodak opps next Sunday!

I didnt plan it this way, but it worked-out pretty good that I got dad's drums finnished-up in time for Father's Day. We spent part of the afternoon getting the kit adjusted to his liking. The kit sounds every bit as good as it looks! He was pretty stoked! Here are some pics with dad's hardware & cymbals. Cymbals are all Zildgian: 15" hi hats & 16" crash/sizzle he bought new in '62 with the toms & snare. The rivets where dealer installed at the music store where he purchased the cymbals. The 18" & 22" are late 50's early 60's cymbals he had already owned. All the cymbals have the same style stamp. We cleaned them up a few weeks ago with Bar Keeper's Friend during my last visit. That stuff's da-bomb! The cymbal L-rod is a mij Ludwig copy I aquired over the years. I've been looking for an Slingy version, but they've been going for stupid money so far on Ebay.

Dad was always good at "making the best of with what he had". Check-out his "modified" Luddy 1123 Hi-hat stand to make room for his "free" double bass pedal that he got from another drummer friend about 10-12 years ago. He's got a couple of gigs in a few weeks. He can't wait to show them off!
