Slingerland Snare Question - What is it? Last viewed: 35 seconds ago

At risk of disagreeing with the majority here, I think that the finish on that drum is might be Slingerland's Light Blue Pearl. It looks a little darker than a bass drum I have in the shop right now. The pictures below are darker than what the drum looks like in person and I have always thought it was light blue pearl.

If your daughter is interested in trying to put together an entire kit in that color then send me a PM about the bass drum.

I agree with the others. Such a great drum and if the other pieces are available even better.

Yep..agreed.You'd be hard pressed to find a better sounding kit than those mid 60's Slingerlands. That snare could be a solid maple shell,as opposed to a 3 ply, which makes it more valuable.

Those are a keeper for sure.I also have to say,I truely admire your daughters work ethic.

Thanks for all of the responses. She's very excited about her find! Here is a photo of the bottom. It's hard to see, but it looks like it is just one solid piece of wood versus a plywood type that we see on many of the other drums she's gathered. Does this make a difference in the quality (value) of the drum or is it just the way this one was made?

She also picked up another Slingerland drum (I've attached a couple of photos of that one as well.) The snare set up, for lack of a better term from me, is odd. It has screw-type tension things that hold the snare wires on, not the strap and/or string type she is used to. Would it be bad to change this set up out for something different? She's like this one, plays it a lot, but the snare is not the sound that she likes, and I don't know how to adjust it? Her drum set are the plastic Ludwig Vistalite drums, and she doesn't like the sound of the snare drum that is with that, so he has been using this one.

Thanks again for all the info. It is a great place for information!

Those are two great drums you have there. The metal one is brass and when tuned right is a great sounding drum! Proper snare wires on the solid shell also. I have a Leedy with that Slingerland set up, the zoomatic and extended butt, and when I put the proper wires on it it made all the difference!

I don't think it has the proper wires on it or I just don't have the wire snare on right. The guy at my local music store said that he never saw a set-up like this one. There is a Guitar Center nearby. I might bring it in there and see if they can fix it/get it working right. Thanks!

Yes, it would devalue the drum. Find someone who knows what it is and how to dial it in. You may not find anyone at Geektar Center that knows what it is. Don't let them talk you into changing it out. I'm sure someone here can give you pointers on how to dial it in. I would if I knew how, but I've never had one with that setup.

Good grief ... that's such a cool story. Is there any way you could scamper on down and retrieve the rest of that kit? Dang. She would make out like a bandit on the entire deal. Check for cymbals, too. What a very cool story.
