I got two Krupa 1N kits one brass badge, one black and brass pre serial number and they are both the same.

Terrible picture, sorry... all I got is my old cell phone camera but I think you can get the idea.

I'm sure there are several different models... but this is what came on my drums.

Jim your right. I was just looking at the catalog scans and the 55 catalog shows the same angled spurs on the accessory page. The next catalog is 59 and there shows the straight legs on some pics. I never knew this, thanks for the pics and info! :)

The legs on my late 50s (AUG 1958) Slingerland BD are straight. Not sure exactly how long they are. I'm thinking about 9 inches or maybe a little less, I'll check tonight if I can remember to. They are slightly thinner than later ones - 3/16" compared to 1/4" legs. Like Glenn said, they're just straight with a spiked tip and a recess for a "C" clip.

EDIT: late 50s legs are 5/16" and later ones are 3/8" diameter. I apologize for my error.

S-Lynn... Interesting... I am assuming your shell is date stamped to 58. Are all your shells stamped to that period?

I had always thought the straight legs, torpedo t-handles and lug style mounts for legs and cymbals were 60's vintage hardware.

In 55 they came out with the Sound King lugs/stick saver rims.....not sure about the BD claws/rods,but that would make sense........change them all at the same time...Help2

What I have been reading today indicates the transition from "bow-ties" to "torpedos" was in the 57-58 time frame... and was simply based on when they ran out of "bow-tie" stock.

Which makes sense with one of my Krupa kits which has "bow-tie" style hardware on the bass drum and "55 lug" style hardware and push button legs on the floor tom.

Yes. BD and rack are dated AUG 15 1958. FT is dated JUN 13 1959.

According to a Slingerland ad I have seen that is dated 1958, the torpedos and claws, as well as BD spur brackets and push-button FT brackets were all new items for 1958. I have seen other 1958 kits with the previous styles of hardware, which I wish I had...just find it a little more classic-looking - not that I don't like what I've got. So, you are correct, they used the older stuff until they ran out. I guess they ran out some time before AUG 15 1958. ;)

You say you have a pre-'58 FT with push-buttons? That's interesting!

I guess nothing says that floor tom wasn't added... wraps are a perfect match. I picked these up from the son of guy who played them on the Wisconsin Polka circuit. They were all cover in blue contact paper... $90 with the hi-hats.

Man, be careful who you tell about stealing those drums! :p That is a very nice set! I have a blue sparkle Ludwig kit, but something about blue sparkle makes me want every blue sparkle kit I see.
