Slingerland 80N BR Kit on eBay - Value? Last viewed: 26 minutes ago

The seller, Dan, was just as much into learning more about the condition as I went through each drum. You're correct about my "soft spot" for Slingerland! Most likely as it was from my first catalog given to me by me 9th grade music teacher...catalog 68, which was the last one with Gene Krupa on the cover. I really liked looking at the WMP GK 1N kit. I've had 3 "Buddy" kits, my 1972 Rogers Celebrity and my late 70's 80N, both in Silver Sparkle. I did purchase a 1975 80N about 10 years ago, in Red Sparkle, but sold it. It's time for a WMP kit!Mark

Mark!

You know... you HAVE had a few BR model sets for sure!, but... it IS time for WMP! Just not the "real" Buddy Rich model unless it is in WMP! Well, it is technically... but you know what I mean! Much like having a 1974 Slingerland Buddy Rich BR/TDR, but the drum is in Blue Sparkle. It IS the same model for sure... but is it "really" the Buddy Rich unless it's in WMP?! Semantics I say! Welcome to the club!

I use smooth ambassadors and emperors sometimes as front bass drum heads they are great sounding. especially great for applying logos to.

So true Mark! I have all smooth white resonants on my bass drums for that very reason: LOOKS correct!, and logos stick beautifully! The exception would be my '65 Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity's. That set still has the OEM front/reso bass drum head and it's a lightly "pebbled" coated white right from Rogers, and with the OEM logo too!

Hi John!

Yes, a really beautiful kit! A "substantial purchase"?! You bet! As TP mentioned previously, this is a kit I don't NEED, but did WANT! Oy Vay!

Hi Mark!

I also love smooth Ambassadors for bass drum heads. Which is why I made one into a BR tribute head! Very easy to apply logos. I was just never keen on them for tom batter heads.

Tommyp!

I guess I have had a few BR kits! In fact, I just remembered one more! Picture attached. Put together from various Slingerland tom and bass shells, a Keller snare shell and a Pearl Export floor tom shell. All wrapped in WMP from Jammin Sam. A very nice looking kit...BUT...not the real deal!

So, now I have a "real", first edition, BR kit, in WMP!

It blows my mind that slingerlands seem to be cheaper in price to the other names. I have a few slingerland kits and they're every bit as quality as the others. In fact, I have a green sparkle 73ish slingerland kit I completely redid, and it's for the most part my main kit for shows. And I have a couple decent, really good ludwig kits. I had a smaller slingerland kit I sold to a friend that I thought embarrassed the clubdate ludwig I have in tone. The clubdate kit sounded like a toy compared to the that slingerland kit. They had better sustain and a lower register. Also, might I suggest trying remo's new "vintage A" heads. They were quite a surprise in tonal difference. Very warm and a great match to slingerlands round over bearing edge. I put them on my 62 set and couldn't believe the tone!
