I think it's a pretty decent score. I don't think you'll lose money if you ever decide to part eith them. The 6 ply shells can be pretty nice too. Please keep us posted and take some better pics Party

Can you tell which one I cleaned? Coming along nicely, even the 12 and 13 have rivets so I believe factory original. Here is a question, all the heads are Ludwig Rockers heads, do you think that's factory original?

Wow! That tom cleaned up great. If this is any indicator of what the rest of drums will look like, then your going to have a great kit when finished. If this an early 80's kit, I'm going to guess this color might have been a little less popular. I bet solids and sparkles were the more popular choice. What are you using to clean the wrap?

I went out and bought a fresh bottle of Novus 2 at South East today, a coat of The Turtle with mucho elbow grease she come out nice! So far everything seems original. I do need leg a t-rod & claw for the bass drum and 1 or 2 legs for the floor tom (one kind of bent), oh yea and one wing nut for the floor tom too.

I do believe rocker heads were original to those sets as my set of that period had them on there. I still have the original resonant heads on mine which are clear rockers.
Not an expert, but from memory the Ludwig kits with the black plastic t-bolts (as you seem to have) also had the Rockers heads as standard.
Clear with silver dot on top and clear on the bottom I think (maybe smooth white).
That's going to be a nice set, and I'm sure they will sound great.

"Come quick cuz it will be sold less than a week I have a lot of people waitn on dis post" Cool DudeIt looks like you also got a couple free blankets from the 80's too.I thought about calling the seller, but I chose to get the 1970 Acrolite posted on CL that day.http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=35685Can't wait to see some pictures.-Tim
First of all good looking set!
Secondly, yes, the rivets were something Ludwig did back then. There's good info on that time period and why they did that in Rob Cook's "The Ludwig Book."
Thirdly -- this post cracked me up! You wouldn't believe the number of old blankets and pillows I have come across in buying old drums! Some of them have been so bad and disgusting they were thrown away... but most have been kept as "moving" blankets for when I buy & pick stuff up!!

Here are pictures of the floor tom before and after cleaning. I still have to put the Turtle wax on and clean hardware but still getting close. Next the Bass drum.
