Should I Or Shouldn't I Sacrifice My Extra Avocado Tom For Inlay Strips? VOTE PLEASE! Last viewed: 10 hours ago

How is this accomplishing your goal? Like the previous post states, there are two disparate groups that are equally passionate.

You should just do whatever you feel is the right thing to do. You couldn't possibly gain insight from this thread, unless you have a couple of members whose opinions have more weight than all the others. If that were the case, you would just PM them.

Do it. Don't do it. It doesn't matter. It's your drum and your kit.

Best of luck with your decision and your drums. I've always loved the Ludwig Standard Strata wraps. Good looking drums.

Ludwig standards aren't the holy grail nor is this wrap. This is a drum. Sacrifice it. Then do somethig with the shell. Or give it to BillnVick to use :)

+1 Right on, larryz!

Possibly the best answer so far. Thanks for stating the obvious!

I enjoy hearing people's opinions because they may bring up things that I have not considered. For instance: the idea that even if the inlays were cut off of the 12 it would be in 3 pieces and technically would still not be correct...which would bug me. Also, what if the wrap tears in the removal process? Then its a lose lose. The wrap is REALLY on there, so it would be a serious hair drier job to even get the seam loose.

Im leaning towards holding onto the drum incase it sounds better than the 13 (for recording etc) and going for some chrome inlaid hoops. Thanks for everyone's input. I do appreciate it.

Adam, I think that is the best decision IMHO... It was a fun thread though!

My vote is to call JAck Lawton and see if he has a piece available. He has a pretty good stash, ya know.Dave

That's an excellent Idea! He might have recovered an Avocado Strata kit and could have a quite a bit of it...

Adam,

If you do go with the Chrome inlay on a nicely painted black hoop, you will not regret it. I reckon that combo "defines" the look/shape of a kit and will look great under lights.. blends with all of your hardware & fittings...

Cheers

If you need inlay's for the hoops .

I have a 13" Avocado tom that was under water i got it for the badge but the finish is still on the drum.I could remove pieces for it for you...Mikey.

I'm a little confused as to why folks think it would have to be in three pieces. Although my Geometry is a bit rusty, the circumference of a circle is:
pi * diameter
If this is a twelve inch shell, you should be able to wrap up to a 24" hoop in two pieces.

Granted, I've never done this before, so perhaps I'm missing something.
