Rogers Dynasonic wood snare Last viewed: 4 days ago

Hi Guys,

Have just joined Vintage Drum Forum. Very excited to read and learn from all expert opinions offered.

I have a wood dynasonic snare drum with beaver tail lugs and clockface snare mechanism. The serial number is 2711. I have read that Rogers started this transitional series off at 2701. Does this make my drum the 11th made and do you know of any older than this?

Aprox. 300 or so drums were produced without external badges.

Numbers started at 1001 and continued upwards to over 55,000. This range of numbers also included marching tenors, snares, and bass drums.

#2711 is a bit low for a beavertail drum. It would be interesting to know the shape of the holes with a lug removed from the shell. It could be a B&B lugged drum originally, that was retrofitted to Beavertails. If this is true value would be significantly impacted. If it is a genuine Beavertail drum, then it would be one of the lowest numbers seen.

Thanks very much for your links. You have a great collection that`s for sure. I will try and attach a photo of my snare. Later I will remove a lug and attach another photo. This snare is part of a Top Hat kit.

Nice looking drum. Do you have any pictures of the interior shell and the edges of the wrap along the bearing edge to show?

The snare bridge looks like its from a later COB (brass shell) Dynasonic.

All the wood Dynas had a slotted tension screw for snare tensioning over the bridge. There would be no doubt of this on a very early edition. So, we know this part in not original. If this is so, then changing out of the lugs could be very likely too along with a wrap change?

Any idea as to its origin and owners? This would help you a lot to determine the drums value and place in history. These snares are very rare so its good for you to know as many details as possible relative to any modifications.

welcome to the forum!

Ploughman has it right. My records indicate it had B&B lugs and has been drilled for BT's or the badge has been replaced with an earlier one. The serial list is not correct its just a reference. It should have a 2nd gen bridge.. Wrap was offered in steel gray ripple during this period. I agree with MikeT as to the dogbone holder.

Looks like another $2500-$3000 drum is devalued considerably to about $500-$600.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. A bit of history. I bought the Rogers kit in New Zealand in 1968 and I was the second owner. I have not modified or changed anything except for the tensioning screw on the bridge.I have the original screw and bridge which I will show in a photo.

The Top Hat kit must have been a special order as it is different from those shown in catalogues. The kit consists of a 20 inch bass drum. 2 floor toms, one 14 and a 16 inch, a wood snare,[the one shown in the photo] and most unusual of all, 2 13x9 toms. All are holiday models and all were made in Cleveland. All are steel grey in colour. The tom holder is T shaped.

I have never heard of the dog bone holder altho i am guessing that it is the same as mine.

I am very interested on any feed back you can give me on this kit and the snare drum as I am asked alot about it here in N.Z.

Rogers drums were imported into N.Z. in the 1960s altho there were very few about as we could buy English made drums at a much cheaper price.
