That's a nice kit. The dyna is pretty sweet too. I see alot of those drums in New England White on fleabay. You should have no problem finding some mates for them. Yes Sir
Rodgers 5pc kit, should I pull the trigger?
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Personally, doesn't do anything for me, except for the snare, unless I got it for a song, like maybe 200 - 250. But thats just me. I don't like concert toms, don't like white drums. And I see a lot of these around here. If you like it, it's all you.

At this point I'm thinking I'm paying for the snare, floor tom hardware and cymbals. I'm a little bummed they aren't considered collectable, guess 70's Rodgers are lower than Slingerlands in the realm of collectibility.
One question I still have is how does the sound compare to Ludwigs and Slingerlands of that vintage? What are the shells made of?
I'm also trying to figure what year and series they are. According to the forum catalog scans, the white wrap first appears in the 76 color swatches, and the concert toms are only in the studio series...which makes no sense since I imagine concert toms are more for the stage playing.
If I understand correctly you cant ID the build date by the SN.

Actually, Hal Blaine made quite a few recordings on a concert tom setup. He even used an old set of tibales as toms.
Either way, the drums will sound great. Less expensive way to get into Rogers and easier to round out the set with that color. These might be part of a larger set, or just orphans joined together. 18" hard to find. Concert toms easy to convert. Done that a time or two.
I ended up with this kit, I really haven't even cleaned it up, I'm just using the snare and a couple stands and the Ziljian ride and crashes. I did set them up and played them but, without wanting to spring for a set of bass drum and tom heads. they'll sit for while.
I am using the snare on my current kit, and need to replace the snare wires. It seems the prices for the puresounds for a dynasonic are a bit steep. Are there good alternatives or can I mod a less expensive set?
Does anyone have a white script logo rack tom I can buy. I was considering taking the lugs and hoop off one of the toms and routing a bearing edge, but I hate to modify old things from original. I'm hoping I can just find a 13 or 14 in two headed tom for cheap
To spice it up alil..
Remove all the white wrap / with a heat gun..
and pic up a can of super degooper from circa1851..
this will remove all the glue..
lightly sand and restain the shells you'll love the results..
As for set up..Ild almost recommend you try using the 18" as the bass drum either put it on a flr converter kit or get some 18" wood hoops..
and the T's /claws and the leg mounts/spurs from the 22" bass drum..
the bass drum mounts will go right into the flr tom leg mount set up..
I've already done this to a 9/72 18" flr tom..
us the 13 on top and the 14...put a rim mount on it and use it as yr flr tom..
you be happy with it..

30-40 bucks is not out of line for a set of custom wires, in fact, it is quite an economical price. I think normal Puresounds are overpriced. The Dyna-Sonic wires, not so much. When they were announced to be discontinued, I purchased SIX sets of wires, and already had TWO sets on standby. I own 12 Dyna-Sonic snares.
The second part of your answer is NO. You cannot hotrod or make work standard wires on a Dyna-Sonic. Well you could, but that would mean melting off the solder, reversing the plates, remounting, getting it all straight, and a real PITA. You will need the real deal.
What is wrong with your wires? My first Dyna, a 1977, I picked up in 1979, was my only snare drum for about 21 years. I have had that drum for 34 years now and it sports original wires. I have taken a set of the epoxies Dyna wires that came unattached, carefully cleaned the epoxy, carefully spaced the wired by individually attaching each one with a tiny dab of epoxy, and then re-applied new epoxy to the plate, coating the wires, and then filed it down to match the profile of the other side. That repair has held for about 3 or 4 years now.

Ploughman thanks for the epoxy idea. The strainer just has a couple disconnected wires. It just kills me that the shells are the cheapest parts of these kits.
So many possibilities I'm reluctant to modify a piece of history, I bought them primarily for the snare, cymbals and FT. I'm focused more on playing at this point so they may sit for a while longer. BUt I had some time and wanted to get feedback and maybe put a line out there that if someone has a rack tom they need to clear out of your garage I'm interested.
I have already considered converting the 14 rack into a FT, the FT into a BD and finding a 12" tom and make a bop kit.
I also thought about buying vinyl wrap and changing the color without the hassle of painting, or removing old wrap. This option is low on my list. I just think I would do this before really tearing into them. And If i felt a need to have a pretty drum kit.
I think the tom mounts aren't original so I am leaning towards modifying this kit by stripping one tom for the hardware, and finding a hoop. I'd rather just find a 13 or 14 rack tom because I prefer one up one down configuration.
I stated earlier it has a 22" bass. but it is a 24" so the sizes are 13/14/18/24. I do think the big drums will make an interesting sounding set though. Gives me lots of possibilities. My Radio King set is a 24/18 bass drum too so I could set up an old school double bass rock kit.
I'll post pics when I find the time to clean them up.
I want to sell the shells and hardware only, I am keeping the snare since it's the best sounding one I own.
e mail me @ 46 chief @ gmail if you are interested, I'll reply with my phone number so we can discuss details.
I haven't made any changes or done any work to this other than set the snare and FT up in my current (playing) kit.
