Rodgers 5pc kit, should I pull the trigger? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Friend of mine is moving and I asked him what he wants to do with his drum kit and he said he'd sell it to me.

The white wrap doesn't scream vintage awesomeness, the concert toms are a bit of a letdown and the chrome will never be pristine...it's a bit pitted. and the seams are starting to lift a little. The positives are it's a Rogers, The floor tom is an 18 and the bass appears to be a 22...no tape measure.

Anyone want to give me an idea what I'm looking at here, and an unoffensive offer to purchase. I figure it's a 72 Fullerton kit.

What are the sizes?Any hardware or cymbals?I'd think 13/14/18/24 with a dyna would be worth $400 even with concert toms.

I just bought the exact kit in black all the way down in New Zealand. 22/13/14/18 and 6.5 Dyna. Mine had Pearl tom mounting hardware added which I'm in the process of converting back to the original Swivo hardware that was still with the kit.

Anyway, the value really lies in the snare (which looks like a 6.5"?) which would fetch around $400-$500 on ebay cleaned up and the 18" FT about $300-$400 on the bay. That gives you an idea. Does this one come with 13 and 14 toms? I'd be interested to know which way the badges face as mine face inwards suggesting a lefty kit or part of a double bass kit.

I think the sizes are 13/14/18/22 the shells are thin and have rerings. The bass seems like it's not as tall as my RK bass, definitely not as deep as my PDP bass and maybe the same height. It wall also come with a HH, 2 Crashes and a ride. They are all Zildjian, but the crash was inverted in fall. I didn't get to see them but should be able to get pick them up Monday.

Can someone tell me a bit more about the shells, and would finding toms with bottom heads be feasible and not too expensive with the white wrap?

That Dyna-sonic snare is worth the purchase. Those are amazing snares, very revolutionary at the time and still sound great. The wood ones go for thousands if nice and clean.

Good luck.

9/72 on the label means made from 9/72 thru 1975.I have heard that the shells could 5 ply with 5 ply rerings,or 3 ply with re rings, with both shells being maple/poplar.

You could convert the toms to double sided by finding/buying lug casings, drilling the holes for them, and adding t rods and rims. There could be bearing edges already cut underneath the metal sleeves,if not you could have them cut.

Nice kit,esp if you can get them at a fair price, remember if they are missing the tom holder or mounting brackets etc,the swivo stuff can get pricey so figure that into your offer, along with the costs to convert the toms.

I GOT THE SOLUTION FOR YOU!

So you're not stoked on the concert toms- how bout taking the lugs off one of the concert toms, putting them on the bottom of one of them and have a regular rack tom for the kit.

???

Opinions... ?

That's what I've been thinking of doing with mine. If you convert the 14" using the lugs from the 13" you'll be 2 lugs short and you will need to cut a bearing edge as the edges are flat on the unheaded side.

Not crazy about the the power toms, but not crazy about drilling holes in an antique drum. I'll be getting them this week, put new heads on them and see how I like them. Since it's a white wrap I'm hoping I can build or find a rack tom for this kit, preferably a big one to match the 18" ft.

Despite it's condition issues and the fact it has little or no collector value, I'd say go for it it's your money.
