placement of rogers collets??

Loading...

thanks again all.

update - took the heads off the floor tom.

1. the edges aren't flat (true)

2. the hoops aren't flat, and are also out of round, one of them so badly that a new head won't go in without squeezing.

3. the shell is possibly out of round. gonna have this dbl checked by the best drum repairman I know.

4. the smell of spraypaint almost knocked me out when I took the first head off.

5. the drum will not tune - the badly bent hoop being the main culprit.

6. both the 14 and 12 are possibly recovered.

too bad because the 20+12 sound thunderous....

did I mention I NEED A REASONABLY PRICED POWERTONE.

thank you blair, and nice to see you here. I like the drums and I want to keep them, except that the 14 is a mess.

From blairndrums

He says in the ad..."no extra holes"...Also...white pad muffler on 16 is wrong...should be black...like the one on the 12.......Wouldn't the extra holes be grounds for saying..." I did some research, and found there are indeed extra holes and now want my $$$ back?"

That is a standard tom mount location for a Rogers 'Starlighter' outfit.

On that layout (as well as 'Celebrity' etc) the mount is down low, under the lug. On the 'Headliner' (and others) the mount is up higher, between the 2 lugs and a little more forward.

I have always found it difficult to keep a bass upright with the 'down low' location of the mount.

That drum is not modified, that's a factory spot for the mount.

Also, the Starlighter came with an l-arm cymbal mount, not a 'disappearing' mount like on your drum. The l-arm mount had no center hole, but the inside photo of your drum shows that a center hole was drilled to allow the mount to be changed to one for a disappearing holder. Not a great job drilling the hole, obviously changed after the drum left the plant.

But the tom mount is ok, as original, for a Starlighter, which is what your drum is...

I had a Starlighter with a 60 degree collet in this location but the drum was a 14x22 this one is a 14x20.
