Old and new drums at work Last viewed: 1 day ago

I am of the mind set that I like vintage and contemporary drums and see the musical value (not just monetary) in both.

As to the Hal Blaine set-up, most guys have not taken up the mantle of the concert tom. Chris McHugh has at least one Craviotto concert tom kit and Taylor Hawkins has his Gretsch kit, but it really has not caught on. I am currently in the process of acquiring DW Collectors orphans and having them re-wrapped to match an exciting kit. The goal being to have the following sizes in one kit. 8-10-12-13 rack toms 14-16-18 floor toms and 20-22-24 kicks. That way I have pretty much any configuration a player might want. Currently that kit is a 13-16-18-24 so I have a ways to go. I would like to add one of David and Jerry's kits at some point just to say I have one. My Blaemire snare piques a lot if interest from the young bucks to the older, more exoerienced guys.

I've been telling Jinx (since before he started the company,) that he is building drums that in the future will be considered, Classics! Every once-in-awhile somebody on here asks; 'What are good modern drums to invest in for the future, that will increase in value over time,' one of the answers is; Jerry & Daves (J & M) fiberglass drum kits!

People will be collecting J & M kits down the line the same way we collect Vistalites, Blaemires & Fibes today. They will become a part of the offering.

Jinx is one of the nicest guys I've met during my forum forays, I wish him and Dave all the luck in the world. I'm convinced they're both sitting on a winner.

Rant over...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I play Sonor because when I was in Germany I had the "candy land" of music stores. Between Thomann and Session Musik there were literally any offering of drum you wanted. At the time I just wanted a professional set and had about $2k budgeted. They had maybe 30 kits or more on the floor to try out and I tried all of them. Sonor stuck out to me because of the very high build quality and of course the sound was amazing.

This video is very representative of what my main gigging set sounds like:

(sorry its in German but I can translate if you need)

This video also was very cool:

Years later I would take lessons from Florian Alexandru-Zorn and support him on his clinic tour in the US.

Anyway I have played of course many great modern sets but there are only a few outside of Sonor that interest me.
