Newbie needs help...

Hello,

Newbie here. I just got a snare drum that is supposed to be pretty old. It does not have any tags on it, and was wondering if anyone can help me identify it. I would like to find out any information that I can on what it is, and who it is made by. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Here are some pictures of it. I can't seem to find any images of one like it.

Looks like a Japan or Tiawan made drum to me but there are more qualified members here to make the call. Whats it say on the batter head?

Translation, "DISCLAIMER: This company is not affiliated in any way, shape or form with Ludwig USA, and don't even think this snare is a Supraphonic."

Just kidding.

It might be "Gusta". I think it translates to "I like the music". Don't sound like anything relating who it's made by. Looking around, Yamaha makes "similar" tensioners, but I think it does resemble some of the Japan made stuff, but still haven't matched it without question.. Still hope someone that knows this stuff better can help ID it..

I don't play drums myself, but do play guitar. My daughter is also a guitarist, and has always wanted to play drums too. She has pretty good rhythm, and beats on everything around the house, so I picked this up for her to start her a kit. I picked it up on ebay for only $30 which included the shipping, so I think that was pretty good. So, maybe it will get her started on her third instrument. She plays flute and guitar very well (she's 15), and like I said, does pretty well banging on stuff around the house, so maybe she'll be a natural with percusion too.

Cool. I think it's worth $30 for her the beat the hell out of while she saves up for a decent kit. It will at least give us the chance to see if we want to invest in them for her later. We already have a buttload invested in her guitar equipment. She has done very well with that over the years, so maybe she'll do just as well with drums too. She's been playing guitar since she was 7 (now 15), and can jam pretty hard. She's a little bitty thing (5'2" at 100 Lbs), and rocks a heavy Gibson Les Paul better than many grown men. People love to see the little thang rock the Les Paul, so now seeing her on percusion will be cool too. Here she is with her string collection. Maybe in a year or two, she can suround herself with a decent skin collection too.
